Assystem's vision of the factory of the future

There's a lot of talk about the Factory of the Future (FoF) or Industry 4.0. But what exactly is it? "It's where disruptive technologies hit the factory and are used on the outside - i.e. the facility - and on the inside, in manufacturing, logistics and other processes. Technologies involved include collaborative robots (or cobots), virtual and/or augmented reality, IoT (with tooling digitalization), etc.", explains Rémy Bourges, Assystem's Global Services Director.

POC/POV (Proof of Concept / Value), prerequisites to rolling out solutions in already-existing plants, are performed upfront. "This could consist of digitalized inspection files, geo-tracking tag-based flow analyses, workshop design validated via immersive 3D, data science-focused non-compliance analyses,...", specifies Philippe Eyssautier, Assystem's FOF Business Development Director.

Assystem, an M&SC solution leader accompanies its clients during their supply chain investment and design stage, providing them with production support services. "These processes are upstream of our "product design" activity and downstream to our "In-Service" one and mean we can cover the whole manufactured product lifecycle", states Philippe Eyssautier.

For Assystem clients, FoF solutions rhyme with greater competitiveness and performance. By integrating cutting-edge technologies, performance is guaranteed over all factory building blocks and the Supply Chain itself.

An Assystem and Schneider Electric collaboration

Assystem proposes FoF (Factory of the Future) solutions to its clients via POC (proof of concept), in partnership with Schneider Electric.

"For example, augmented reality technologies mean inspection lead times are halved. Indoor geo-tracking technologies are used to create inventories with a single click. Predictive maintenance algorithms divide machine downtime by five. Virtual reality software enhances workstation ergonomics. The field of opportunities is gigantic", says Rémy Bourges.

Assystem works with Schneider Electric on its FoF solutions. Schneider Electric provides optimal technological solutions and Assystem its expertise on issues and operational practices for clients with rollout capacities.

"For example: to roll out machine-base optimization solutions, machines need to be connected and use and production data collected, this is carried out by Schneider Technologie. The data then needs to be analysed, supervision data rolled out and customized for the client environment and improvements proposed to up performance, this is done by Assystem", explains Marc Fromager, Schneider Electric France's Automation & Process Director.

Assystem and Schneider Electric's engineering teams are currently working hand-in-hand, testing solutions and services that meet aircraft industry's new industrial uses (industrial performance, predictive maintenance, machine-base optimization, energy use reduction).

Aim: finalize the concepts and validate the economic performance of these solutions so they can then be rolled out massively in the client's different plants, or replicated to other business sectors.
